Odessa, TX - Drivers are desperate to find cheap gas; they’re so desperate, some are even stealing it.

EZ Rider is already dealing with a driver and mechanic shortage and now they've got one more thing to add to the list, someone is breaking in and stealing their fuel.

"If a person wants to steal something they'll find a way to get it," explains EZ Rider General Manager Alonda Massey. "It’s pretty disturbing to know that someone’s coming in while we're at home and stealing fuel."

EZ Rider says someone is actually breaking-in in the middle of the night through the fence, they have actually found several holes surrounding their lot.

"We found fuel spills in the yard and evidence of where people may be coming in," Massey says.

In fact, on 2 different occasions an EZ Rider bus ran out of gas in the middle of a route.

"That’s pretty bad that somebody would steal fuel and put people who are on their way to work in a situation that could cost them a lot,” Massey says. “Our staff did fuel the buses, we fuel our vehicles every night every day so there's absolutely no reason we should have a vehicle on route run out of gas."

Massey says at a time when they are struggling to keep all of their routes intact, this is the last thing they need.

"We have enough going on just trying keep enough drivers and enough staff, it’s just awful that somebody would add to that by stealing fuel," Massey says.

EZ Rider will be putting in cameras and putting locks on every single one of their fuel tanks.

Though they do not know how much has been stolen at this time, EZ Rider says they do plan to press charges on whoever is stealing the gas.
