Senate Ready to Vote on Business Tax Cut Bills 7/12/12

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate leaders have agreed to vote on rival Democratic and Republican plans to cut business taxes.
Both measures seem certain to be defeated in an election-season in which neither party wants to give the other an accomplishment to tout to voters.
Democrats would cut taxes for companies that enlarge their payrolls or make major investments in equipment. Republicans say that measure is too modest and that stronger steps are needed to spur the economy.
There will also be a vote on a GOP bill already approved by the House that would give tax breaks to all companies with fewer than 500 employees. Republicans say that measure would boost economic activity, but Democrats say it is too broad and cuts taxes for millionaires and others who don't need it.
