Triple Digits to Return for Start of Work Week 6/16/12

CBS7 PinPoint Weather Center
Meteorologist Juan Acuņa
6/16/12

Good day West Texas! We have mostly sunny skies across the Basin for today and it is hot with a moderate breeze.

Our weather pattern for the past week has been very similar with generally mostly sunny skies to start off the day and as the day progresses, we see a few isolated thunderstorms spark up as temperatures increase.

That will be the case again for the rest of this afternoon (Saturday) as well as into Sunday. Though, I think the areas with greater potential will once again be to our north and east near the Lubbock area and moving towards the Concho Valley and Western Low Rolling Plains. Also, down to the south near Marfa, Alpine, and around the Jeff Davis county area where the higher elevations will help support some lift in the thunderstorm development has an opportunity as well.

Temperatures have also been fairly steady in the mid to upper 90's and that will generally be the case for the next 7-days with the exception of Monday when temperatures should break the triple digits once again in the afternoon hours. This will be short-lived as the temperatures will calm down by mid-week to more seasonal levels in the mid to lower 90's as we get a southerly wind that should increase some low-level moisture into West Texas.

I do think rain chances will start to drop for the Midland/Odessa area, however I still can't rule out a thunderstorm or two in the mountains as daytime heating could help in some storm development.

The official start of Summer is this Wednesday, the 20th, and should hold mostly sunny skies and temperatures not too bad in the mid 90's.

Have a great weekend and upcoming work week!
