Odessa Man Convicted on Attempted Capital Murder Charge 3/7/12

Ector County District Attorney, Bobby Bland, issues the following statement:
Today, Sunny J. Hignojos was convicted of Attempted Capital Murder and Evading Arrest or Detention. The Jury returned its verdict after 45 minutes. The Jury sentenced him to 40 years in prison on the Attempted Capital Murder charge and 2 years in prison on the Evading Arrest or Detention. These sentences will be stacked upon the 40 year sentence Mr. Hignojos received from the September 15, 2011 conviction for the 2010 murder of Jaime Morales, Jr. Assistant District Attorney, Brooke Hendricks tried this case. The defense Attorney was David Rogers. The Defendant is facing 4 aggravated assault charges stemming from a shooting that happened in connection with the death of Jaime Morales, Jr.
District Attorney, Bobby Bland, stated, "It is important that he be held accountable for his actions that endangered the life of a Sheriff Deputy, just as he was held accountable for the death of Jaime Morales, Jr."
